Beep Saver 1.0 is a freeware system extension designed for users of Apple’s Energy Saver control panel. The Energy Saver control panel, which is distributed with Apple’s new multiple scan monitors, turns off the Energy-Star compliant monitors after a specified time interval to save energy. When the user wakes the monitor, the monitor turns back on accompanied by a repetitive, annoying beep.
Beep Saver shuts off the beeping and replaces it with a display of the LEDs on the Apple extended keyboard.
To use Beep Saver, copy it to the Extensions folder of the System folder (or by dragging its icon over the System Folder icon). This will also force Beep Saver to load before Energy Saver, which is required for Beep Saver’s operation.
When it is time for Beep Saver to run, it checks for the presence of an Apple Extended keyboard. If it doesn’t find one, the beeps will still not occur, but neither will the keyboard lights display. In addition, Beep Saver does not check for the presence of multiple keyboards. If you have such a configuration, you might see the LED display. If you have a non-Apple extended keyboard attached with LEDs present, the keyboard lights display won’t work either.
Beep Saver runs emulated on Power Macintoshes.
